Darnisa attended Brandeis University on full scholarship. She earned a BA with double major in Anthropology and History, and a double minor in French and in Afro and African American Studies. While she was an undergraduate, she also earned an MA in Socio-Cultural Anthropology. She graduated 9th in her class from Dewey HS in Brooklyn, and scored a 5 (out of 5) on seven different AP exams (and a 4 on one more). Darnisa is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy.
Darnisa worked as an independent tutor for six years prior to joining the staff of the Cobble Hill Think Tank. She has taught in after-school test-prep programs, worked one-on-one with students from kindergarten through college, and she has written curriculum and assessments at all levels. She currently spends her days as a lead 4th grade teacher in a charter school in the Bronx.
Darnisa is a voracious reader, and always finds time to read every day. She reads no fewer than 400 novels each year!
At the Cobble Hill Think Tank, Darnisa teaches all levels of history and science, from K through 12th grade. She also teaches Math up to 9th grade, and all aspects of preparations for the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT).
Darnisa is currently working at Harvard towards a PhD in Educational Policy. We miss her dearly, but she is with us in spirit.
