Lisa spent 6 years working as a private tutor at her kitchen table under the name of "Big Fish Tutoring." She coached and instructed individuals and small groups in Math, Organizational Skills, Test Prep and Drawing. Demand for her services inspired her to find a Court Street location and hire several like-minded teachers.
She holds a BA in
Economics from Barnard College, and studied Economic History full-time for
two years at the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research. Lisa has nearly completed the requirements for an MS is Middle School Math at Brooklyn College (completing this degree was derailed when the DOE laid her off).
Lisa has worked as a public Middle School
Math teacher and as a long-term and regular substitute teacher in dozens of
public and charter schools across NYC (including PS 29, PS 58, MS 447 and MS
442).
In her first career, Lisa spent 15 years as
a Systems Project Manager at several major brokerage houses. Before graduating
from college, Lisa's primary interests were in the study of classical drawing
and painting: She studied for 11 consecutive summers at the Woodstock School of
Art, and graduated from the LaGuardia HS of Music And Art with special
recognition for her drawing skills.
At the Cobble Hill Think Tank, Lisa teaches
Math up to 10th grade, Test Prep, Organizational Skills and Drawing. She also
coaches families with regard to school choice, as well as for special academic
supports for students with learning issues. And (of course) she runs the
business.
